The country seat of a noble Cortonese
family, this charming hamlet is the perfect recipe for
a classic Tuscan vacation.
In
close proximity to the most fascinating towns of central
Italy, renowned for their artistic beauty, such as Florence,
Arezzo, Siena and Perugia, Il Melone is in the valley
below Cortona, the oldest Etruscan settlement in Tuscany.
Borgo Il Melone is surrounded by the most typical Tuscan
countryside creating a unique and compelling setting.
This elegant and charming complex
has both hotel rooms and apartments to suit all types
of holiday makers. It is a place full of magic for a

Original building materials have been
cleverly reused thus combining the typical atmosphere

of rose beds to the delicate purple of lavender shrubs
and the dark green of rosemary bushes spreading a lovely
scent.
There is an amazing orchard with 25
different types of fruit trees.

in the interiors of the apartments. Borgo Il Melone
is filled with the colors, perfumes and gifts of the

HISTORY: Borgo Il
Melone dates back to the beginning of the 19th century
when it was a property of the Mancinis, a noble family
from Cortona who still own the entire set of buildings.
The Mancini family boasts a wide family tree that includes
Girolamo Mancini, scholar, man of letters and patriot
who followed Garibaldi in 1860 and 1866.
He is the author of memorable biographies,
such as "Life of Luca Signorelli", "Life
of Lorenzo Valla", "Life of L.B. Alberti",
and of dissertations such as "Cortona in the Middle
Ages" and "Rites and Codices from Cortona".
He
was Gonfalonier in Cortona; he was elected member of
the Parliament twice, and was librarian and lucumon
of the Etruscan Academy. In 1881 he founded the bank
'Banca Popolare Cortona'.
OTHER FACILITIES AVAILABLE
NEAR BY: Tennis, golf, the beach, horse riding,
bike riding, hiking, wine tasting, fabulous dining,
thermal spas, Hot air balloon flying, designer out let
shopping, Etruscan ruins and Renaissance and medieval
art and architecture.
Please note: This property does not
have air conditioning. Air conditioning is rarely necessary
in Tuscany due to the lack of humidity and the temperate
climate. Almost all of our properties at InTuscany are
in remodeled medieval or renaissance buildings. They
generally have very thick walls and high ceilings, most
are built on the tops of our gently rolling hills where
they catch the breezes that spring up at mid day and
in the evenings.
Generally air conditioning is only
found by the sea side or in the city centers where noise
and/or humidity make it necessary. We do not have air
conditioning in our offices or in any of our own homes.
