Walking distance from one of the most
beautiful villages in Tuscany, immersed in the deep
silence of the Val D’Orcia, La Chiusa dei Monaci
is simple rustic accommodation.
The
owners of La Chiusa dei Monaci are country folk producing
olive oil amongst other local Tuscan products. Castelmuzio
is famous for it’s 100% extra virgin olive oil
which wins prizes every year.
All around the property stretch undulating
hills with fields of the beautiful grey green olive
trees. The harvest takes place in November each year.
But the real enchantment is in the
beauty of the place, arising from simple things; magical
silence and fabulous sunrises. Enjoy the pleasure of
an early morning walk, immersed in the scents of an
unspoiled countryside.
The village is very typical with lots
of old ladies, tractors driving along the main street,
teenagers on bicycles and a black and white communal
dog called “STELLA”. It has a small store
with every thing for sale including fresh fruit and
vegetables and in the center a really fantastic coffee
shop and restaurant.
This
is a place where the rhythms of nature and it’s
seasons pervade daily life. No one is ever in a rush
and children have the run of the town with out fear
of danger.
ACCOMODATION: All
apartments have a private out door area for dining al
frescoe. The kitchens have four burners, half fridge,
sink and oven.
The bedrooms have Queen sized beds and there is a pull
out sofa bed in the living room which is open plan and
includes the kitchen. There is a shared washing machine.
Please note that there is no telephone
at La Chiusa but good reception for guests own cell
phones and a public phone in the town piazza which is
about a 7 minute walk.
LOCATION: La Chiusa
dei Monaci is near to Sinalunga as well as with easy
reach of most important Tuscan places of interest. The
nearest airport is Florence airport about 1 ½
hours drive. Pisa is a two hour drive and Rome airports
are both about 2 ½ hours by car.
La
Chiusa dei Monaci is also near to Montepulciano, Pienza,
Bagno Vignoni, and Montalcino.
OTHER FACILITIES AVAILABLE
NEAR BY: Tennis, golf, horse riding, bike riding,
hiking, wine tasting, fabulous dining, thermal spas,
Hot air balloon flying, designer out let shopping, Etruscan
ruins and Renaissance and medieval art and architecture.
Please note:
This property does not have air conditioning. Air conditioning
is rarely necessary in Tuscany due to the lack of humidity
and the temperate climate. Almost all of our properties
at InTuscany are in remodeled medieval or renaissance
buildings. They generally have very thick walls and
high ceilings, most are built on the tops of our gently
rolling hills where they catch the breezes that spring
up at mid day and in the evenings.
Generally
air conditioning is only found by the sea side or in
the city centers where noise and/or humidity make it
necessary. We do not have air conditioning in our offices
or in any of our own homes.
