Residence
il Casale is a delightful residence (apartment hotel)
just below Cortona comprising duplex apartments each
with two bedrooms, a combined sitting room/ kitchen/living
area and a bathroom.  Reconstructed from a 16th century
agricultural structure originally intended for a sprawling
extended family, the buildings look back upon the towers,
the domes, and the sky of Cortona, a city of ancient
and mysterious origins. Please note that as the structure
is medieval the windows are quite small.
Cortona is a city closer to heaven
than to the train station.
Frequented by Mitterand, seat of a
University of Georgia art program, and host to the prestigious
Annual Exhibition of Antique Furniture as well as a
monthly exhibition of antiques (on the third Sunday
of each month), il casale is only a few minutes drive
from this magnificent medieval city.
 ACCOMODATION: The
buildings are organized around what was once a large
farmyard, and the house, with its tower rising high
above the other structures, is by far the oldest building. The ten apartments (each with accommodation for 4) offer
simple yet complete amenities -- from furnishings to
services -- all with an eye to facilitating a perfect
Tuscan holiday experience. Equipped with the expected
modern conveniences the residence also preserves its
original characteristics: the split level roof and the
outside stairway with its wide second floor landing.
Behind a wing of the complex, the
swimming pool measuring 16m x 18m (48ft x
54ft) is built according to the most modern hydraulic
standards.  In the
background: at a distance of only 3 kilometres, the
outline of Cortona -- a city that is at once Etruscan,
medieval, and renaissance.

Please note that this is a budget
property. The offices are generally only staffed in
the late afternoon however, in the case of a problem
they can be reached by telephone at any time.
 LOCATION: Il Casale is nestled
in the foothills just below Cortona. It is perfectly
located for day trips to Florence, Siena or into Umbria.
Near by are the famous medieval cities of Montepuciano
and Perugia as well as Lago Trasimeno. One can also
find thermal baths and wonderful Etruscan ruins. In
fact the residence of Il Casale is only a stones throw
away from an important Etruscan royal tomb dating back
to the 6th century B.C.
The rural complex is situated near
the centre of San Pietro a Cegliolo, a hamlet of Cortona.
The
closest airport is Florence and Rome airport is about
2 ½ hours by car.
