This charming little terraced town-house is ideally situated within the medieval walls of the picturesque Tuscan hilltop town of Monte San Savino. While located in a quiet side-street, it enjoys all the amenities of a prime central position. Its cosy rustic interiors combine traditional architecture and furnishings with every modern comfort.
Centrally heated throughout, this historic building retains many of its original structural features, carefully preserved during the renovation work. These include the white-washed and exposed stonework walls, terracotta-tiled floors, tiled/beamed ceilings and large stone fireplaces. Built on a gentle incline, the property works on unusual split-levels, accommodating an attractive basement kitchen/dining room, from where a round-arched doorway and some steps give direct access to the side-street in front of the house.
ACCOMMODATION: Three steps lead up from the quiet, traffic limited side-street directly into the living-room, with its old wood-burning stone fireplace, floor rugs, wide dark-wood ceiling beams, and lovely exposed stonework elements in the white-washed walls. There is a double sofabed and a flat-screen LCD TV, but no satellite link.
Adjoining this dayroom is a bathroom, with modern fittings, hairdrier and shower.
A steep, narrow, terracotta-tiled staircase, with wrought-iron handrail and a security-gate at the top, proceeds down to the low-ceilinged basement, with its fully equipped fitted kitchen corner, large stone fireplace and wooden dining-table. Here the walls are particularly eye-catching, featuring exposed stonework and even sections of the foundation rock itself! At the far end of the room, round-arched glass-panelled double doors open out to street level, providing an alternative entrance to this lower ground floor.
Returning to the lounge, you continue up a terracottta-tiled staircase that leads open-plan into the top-floor double bedroom. Here there are rugs on the tiled floor, traditional rustic-style dark-wood furniture, a lovely tiled/beamed ceiling and a TV.
LOCATION: Set in a quiet side-street running parallel to the town’s main pedestrian thoroughfare, the Corso, the house is within easy walking distance of all the local shops, cafés, restaurants and pizzerias. It is a stone’s throw from one of the medieval town gates, the Porta Romana, outside which there are a number of parking spaces. This historic town-centre location also means that all the town’s sights and cultural attractions are conveniently close at hand.
OTHER FACILITIES AVAILABLE NEAR BY: The area can offer: horseriding; bike riding; nature hikes; thermal spas; hot-air balloon flights; wine tours and tasting; fabulous dining; and a whole host of nearby locations of historic, artistic, architectural, culinary and scenic renown, such as: Montepulciano (home to the famous Vino Nobile red wine); Montalcino (home to the equally famous Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino red wines); Pienza (famed for its delicious "pecorino", sheep's milk cheese); Torrita di Siena; Sinalunga; Lucignano; Cortona;Arezzo (celebrated for Piero Della Francesca's 15 th century fresco-cycle of the "Legend Of The True Cross"); Lake Trasimeno; the Abbey/Monastery of Monte Oliveto Maggiore; the ancient Umbrian hilltop town of Perugia, as well as that of Assisi, most important of pilgrimage destinations, being the birthplace of St. Francis; and, of course, Siena (home to, among countless other things, the world-famous "Palio" horserace).
Please note: This property does not
have air conditioning. Air conditioning is rarely necessary
in Tuscany due to the lack of humidity and the temperate
climate. Almost all of our properties at InTuscany are
in remodeled medieval or renaissance buildings. They
generally have very thick walls and high ceilings, most
are built on the tops of our gently rolling hills where
they catch the breezes that spring up at mid day and
in the evenings.
Generally air conditioning is only
found by the sea side or in the city centers where noise
and/or humidity make it necessary. We do not have air
conditioning in our offices or in any of our own homes.
