In Medieval times La Ferriera was
an old grain mill. The millrace still gushes down and
under the complex providing a fabulous natural swimming
area and an ambiance unparalleled as the rushing waters
spew positive ions into the surrounding air creating
a restful and refreshing environment on even the hottest
of August days.
 The
river then winds its way on down through the enchanting
medieval town of Loro Ciuffenna, which is only five
minutes walk away.
After serving it's time as a mill
the buildings were then converted into an iron works.
With in some of the buildings parts of the machinery
from both incarnations can be seen cleaned and preserved.
Today, La Ferriera has been meticulously restored and
converted into 19 high standard apartments, which retain
typical Tuscan features. The apartments are simply,
but comfortably furnished in true Tuscan style, and
most of them have their own private outdoor eating area.
The swimming pool is built above the
mill in what was a field and provides the most fabulous
views of the entire mill valley, down to Loro Ciuffenna
and beyond. It is an exceptionally large sized pool
with plenty of lounges, umbrellas and wide green
lawns to spread out on.
 Also with in the complex are a tennis
court, a laundry room, parking and reception. The old
machinery room has been transformed into a communal
recreation room with television and Ping-Pong. The entire
complex is gated with a video security system. Cooking
courses can be arranged upon request.
ACCOMMODATION: With in the
complex are 19 charming apartments, each with it's own
individual character. The smallest apartments have one
bathroom, one bedroom and one kitchen/living room with
a pull out sofa bed, making them suitable for 1 to four
people. The middle size have two bedrooms, one bathroom
and one kitchen/living room making them suitable for
up to six people and the largest apartments have two
bedrooms, two bathrooms and a large kitchen/living room
with pull out sofa beds, sleeping a total of eight people.
Almost all have an out door eating
area equipped with table and chairs. All are furnished
in simple country style with good quality fittings,
fixtures and linens.  The kitchens have every thing necessary
to prepare simple meals. All the apartments come with
a small safe for personal valuables, Telephone and satellite
television in all languages. Please note that none of
the bathrooms come with bathtubs, only showers.
LOCATION: La ferriera is very
conveniently located just 25 minutes from Florence and
20 minutes from Arezzo. It is with in easy reach of
all major points of interest, San Gimingano, Volterra
etc. It is also very near to the Prada and Gucci out
lets for those who like to shop.
Please note: This property does not
have air conditioning. Air conditioning is rarely necessary
in Tuscany due to the lack of humidity and the temperate
climate. Almost all of our properties at InTuscany are
in remodeled medieval or renaissance buildings. They
generally have very thick walls and high ceilings, most
are built on the tops of our gently rolling hills where
they catch the breezes that spring  up at mid day and
in the evenings.
Generally air conditioning is only
found by the sea side or in the city centers where noise
and/or humidity make it necessary. We do not have air
conditioning in our offices or in any of our own homes.
