which is very noble square, original home of the Ghiberti
family (one of Florences foremost antique familys).
Situated opposite the Palazzo is "Loggia del Pesce",
designed by Vasari. A simple and beautiful example of
perfect renaissance architecture designed and composed
of 18 thin Doric columns with a variety of small round
terracotta fish.
The nearest airport is Florence 20
to 40 minutes depending on traffic. Pisa airport is
just over an hour and Rome airports are around three
hours drive. All airports are easily accessible by train.
Having a car for your stay at Palazzo Pietrapiana is
not necessary.
HISTORY: Palazzo
dell'Accademia was previously home to the "Accademia
dei Risoluti", which gave birth to the theatre
named "Alfieri". On the main gate there is
an engraving of the "Cavallo Sfrenato" (the
galloping horse) symbol of the "Accademia dei Risoluti"
whose motto was "valoroso destrier passa e non
cura", (brave horse passing without fear).
