Noble apartment of grand 18th century
building in charming Tuscan village.
You
will feel like the local nobility when you get to stay
in this palazzo, out side of your door are restaurants,
bars and shops and all around is the stunning scenery
of rural Tuscany.
Palazzo Costanti, located in the
heart of southern Tuscany's most interesting area, is
a brush with regional nobility. The apartment was originally
the masters own chambers or ‘Piano Nobile’
(the grand first floor apartment) of an 18th century
townhouse. The Palazzo overlooks Palazzo Chigi and Collegiata
Church in the central piazza of San Quirico, approximatly
40 km or 25 miles south of Siena.
San Quirico it’s self is a jewel
of medieval and renaissance defensive architecture.
As you approach the village which sits high on top of
a hill, the first thing you see are the massive walls,
an old castle poking out from the edge, a church bell
tower...it all looks at once intriguing, intimidating
and impenetrable from the ground. Such was the intent
of the middle ages. It is within these impressive defensive
walls that Palazzo Constanti provides a spacious and
surprisingly affordable stay in one of Tuscany's most
interesting regions.
ACCOMODATION: The apartment is on the "Piano Nobile"
of "Palazzo Costanti"and is located in the
main square of San Quirico, overlooking the beautiful
Palazzo Chigi and the Collegiata Church (respected for
its design and portals; often written about). All of
the rooms of the apartment overlook the square. The
accommodation comprises a large living room/dining room
with vaulted ceilings and decorated with antique furniture.
The ceiling is adorned with a frescoe of the family
crest and original terra cotta floors throughout help
create a classic Tuscan atmosphere. There is an additional
sitting room for reading and lounging and a large spacious
eat-in kitchen with a big old fireplace.
The apartment is comfortably furnished
with fine antique pieces, including a piano. There is
a washing machine and a dishwasher. The living and dining
room are very spacious and comfortable. There is an
antique wood-burning stove which can be used in the
winter.
There are two bedrooms: one with
large French doubles (140 cm or 4 ½ feet) and
the other with twin beds which can be made up as a queen
sized double. There
are two bathrooms, one with a shower and tub and the
other with just a shower. A renowned restaurant Osteria
Il Tinaio is just at your door step and full or half
board can be organized.
LOCATION: Palazzo
Costanti is located in the heart of the hill town San
Quirico d’Orcia about 40 kilometres or 25 miles
south of Siena.
San Quirico is an oft overlooked
location par excellence for touring some of Tuscany's
best spots. Far from the Siena, Florence, Pisa beaten
path, here you have nature (Mount Amiata), wine (Montalcino),
small impressive hill towns (Pienza and Montelpulciano)
and steamy health (the famous spas of Bagno Vignoni
and Bagno San Fillipo, where year round wallowing in
natural heated sulphuric springs are a sure fire cure
for jet lag or feet and backs weary from site seeing).
There is so much to see an do in
this part of Tuscany that you will making a list of
all the things you couldn’t get to this time for
your next trip. The nearest airport is Florence airport
(about one and a half hours by car) Pisa is 2 hours
and Rome about 2 ½.
