A splendid
hilltop location with beguiling 360 degree views over
the extensive vineyards of the famous Frescobaldi estate,
wonderfully spacious and beautifully appointed accommodation,
and a large swimming pool are just some of the attributes
that make this 200-year old farmstead so immensely appealing.
No expense has been spared in the
recent restoration and conversion of Tortori, and whilst
many of the rambling building's charming original features
were preserved, a touch of contemporary gloss has been
added to create rental accommodation that will meet
the expectations of the most discerning travellers to
Tuscany.
A
substantial section of the structure is the imposing,
semi-detached 'Villa Padronale' (Villa
Eleanora), adjoined at the rear by five splendid
apartments. The apartments are a highly successful blend
of the traditional and the contemporary, with exceptionally
light and airy interiors and an almost extravagant generosity
of space.
Please note that the apartments do
not have telephones. Guests may use the phone in the
manager's office or are advised to bring a cell/mobile
phone with roaming.
ACCOMODATION:
The five apartments are named after
grape varieties used in the production of Chianti, and
sleep from 2 up to 8 people. They are all independently
heated and have been restored with a view to them being
usable all year round. All apartments have television,
a fully equipped kitchen (electric oven, fridge, hobs
and extractor fans), open fireplace and living room
with sofa-bed. Each apartment has a bathroom of a very
high standard with either shower and/or bath.
Please follow the individual links

THE GARDEN AND SURROUNDING ESTATE:
The Apartments are approached through a large communal
open courtyard with various agricultural out buildings
constructed around it. Each villa has an out door dining
area either under the loggia or on a small patio out
side of the entranceway.
The
pool is fenced for child safety and has night time lighting
it is 18 meters by 9 meters, 1.2 to 2 meters deep. Open
from May to mid October it is furnished with suitable
pool furniture.
There is tennis 2 kilometres away,
horse riding at 4 kilometres and golf at 10.
LOCATION:
Tortoli is located on a delightfully secluded hill top.
Florence can be reached by car in less than half an
hour, and the fast roads to Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra
and Pisa are easily accessed too. The nearest village,
Montagnana, is 3km away and boasts an excellent trattoria
(Il Focolare - closed in August), run by the father
of the villa's manager and just a little further is
the delightful trattoria of Podere Torricello. In Cerbaia,
is 'La Tenda Rossa', regarded by some as being Tuscany's
finest restaurant (may be closed for some weeks in August).
For a wider selection of eating places,
Montespertoli is 7km from here. On your way, you will
pass Montegufoni Castle, a near-perfect copy of Florence's
Palazzo Vecchio and one of the more curious landmarks
in Tuscan history.
Please note that the villa is reached
by several kilometers of gravel road, that after heavy
rains can have pot holes, it is not suited for people
with low slung sports cars.
The closest airport is Florence and
Rome airport is about 2 ¾ hours by car.
Please note that this property does
not have air conditioning. Air conditioning is rarely
necessary in Tuscany due to the lack of humidity and
the temperate climate. Almost all of our properties
at InTuscany are in remodelled medieval or renaissance
buildings. They generally have very thick walls and
high ceilings, most are built on the tops of our gently
rolling hills where they catch the breezes that spring
up at mid day and in the evenings.
Generally air conditioning is only
found by the sea side or in the city centres where noise
and/or humidity make it necessary. We do not have air
conditioning in our offices, in any of our homes or
in any of our larger rental villas. It can be found
in these hotels Tornabuoni
n1, Villa
Cicolina, Corte
del Sole, Tenuta
Lupinari or Villa
Santo Stefano.
If you feel that air conditioning
is essential to your well being then please look at
these properties, let us know which ones appeal to you
and we will check availability for you.
