TOUR L: Etruscan Maremma
Tour
Until the second world war when Mussolini
drained the malaria infested marshes of the Maremma

and forgotten place, a time capsule of ancient history.
3,000 years ago the area was the centre of a thriving
Etruscan empire. The Etruscans ruled southern Italy
with an advanced civilisation that rivalled the hight
of the Roman Empire until they were deposed by the (Then
barbarian) Romans. They left behind tombs and burial
cities rich with their culture and history.
Over the centuries and through the
dark ages the Etruscan remains were buried under layers
of earth and new Medieval villages where built on top
of them.
Today it is a fascinating place, uniquely

little known part of Italy will provide you with fascinating
