WHERE TO EAT:
Shopping and eating, our
favorite pass times |
|
Shopping and eating are both very
pleasurable activities but a three-course meal doesn't
bode well for sliding in to that slinky micro number
in the early afternoon. On the other hand, some times
a fantastic meal is in order to pacify the person wielding
the plastic or simply to celebrate because after all
you are on holiday and you can take it slowly.
At 'InTuscany' when we're trawling
the out lets these are our favorite places.
For those short of time and in need of quick sustenance,
the café attached to both Prada and THE MALL
offer small but delicious designer sandwiches and light
salads, along with cold glasses of white wine and chic
brands of mineral water. The food offerings at Prada
are better than at THE MALL and they also serve skinny
cappuccinos(made with skimmed milk) but at THE MALL
we have had some mean cocktails.
For those in search of the best,
the finest, the meal that will stand out in your memory
for years to come we highly recommend Osteria di Rendola.
The table clothes are white and creamy,
the service is impeccable, the food and wine is equal
to some of the best restaurants in Florence, Classical
Tuscan with a modern innovative twist. It will not weigh
you down unless you decide to bag the shopping, get
stuck into the tasters menu and while away a long afternoon.
After all you can always shop tommorow.
They have out side as well as inside
dining. This restaurant is well known and frequented
by gourmet travelers and locals who seek it out especially
for the quality of the food.

OSTERIA DELLA RENDOLA
Via di Rendola,
Loc. Rendola

This restaurant is at Val D'Arno
but it's well worth any necessary back tracking: How
to arrive: Leave the A1 motorway at Val D'arno and follow
the directions for Montevarchi town centre and then
for Mercatale. Shortly before the village of Mercatale
turn right for Rendola and the Osteria is 100 yards
up the road on the right. You will start to see signs
for the Osteria well in advance, if you follow them
carefully the restaurant is not difficult to find.
For
those in need of simpler but nourishing local fare we
recommend "ristorante, pizzeria F.LLI GIUSTI
(Giusti’s sons).
Very conveniently located near to
Fendi this is a large restaurant and so you can almost
always be sure of finding a table and there is plenty
of parking spaces for your car filled with precious
designer cargo.
Marco, the owner/manager is young
and enthusiastic and speaks fluent English amongst other
languages (French, Spanish and a bit of German). You
may find your self sitting next to the local bank manager
or a table of brick layers working on a near by project.
You’ll probably be the only foreigners in the
place.
The pizzas are the light thin crust
variety and there are plenty of salads and vegetable
based antipasti (small tasty starters). The best thing
we had was the grilled Branzino. This is a large mild
flavored fish so you will need to order it for three
or more. It was superb and even the children ate it.
We left feeling energized and ready to shop some more.
