This museum occupies the upper floor
of the Church of Jesus and adjacent rooms. On the back
wall hangs an Annunciation (1433), one of Fra Angelico's
most sublime paintings. There are also works by Sassetta
(XVI century), Duccio di Boninsegna (XIV century) and
Luca Signorelli - including his dramatic Deposition
of Christ.
The town offers many other examples
of artistic merit. The cathedral contains works by Berrettini,
Ciuccio di Nuccio and Severini. In nearby Via del Gesù
and Via Iannelli are characteristic rows of medieval
houses. In St. Philip's sedate and pleasing Baroque
church are paintings by Piazzetta (1682-1754) and Sacrestani
(XVI century).
Cortona's cultural itinerary includes
many other noteworthy churches as well as a variety
of other locations. In the Church of St. Dominic dating
from the mid XV century is a polyptych by Gerini and
works by Signorelli and Bartolomeo della Gatta (XV century).
Gino Severini's enshrined mosaics of the Stations of
the Cross lead up to the Sanctuary of St. Margherita.
