across the two valleys and the lakes of Trasimeno, Chiusi and Montepulciano.

The residence La Locanda di San Francesco occupies what was once the Oratorio di Sant’Emidio e della Misericordia,  rising above the ancient city walls that surround the oldest part of Montepulciano.It is attached to the 14th century church of Saint Francis and dominates the square of the same name.
Careful restoration, commissioned and supervised with great passion by the present owners, has brought to life the historic gothic portal of the church, secret rooms and ancient bell towers, giving new life to the building and the whole square.
The rooms are situated on the first floor and are fitted with independent air conditioning, bar fridge, 21” LCD satellite TV, telephone and internet
connection. Beds are queen or king size and each room is personalised by sophisticated and exclusive furnishings. High quality parquet and elegant
fabrics complete the atmosphere.
La stanza secreta, discovered during restoration,is a cosy evocative sitting room with views onto the Val D’Orcia and two stone walls that once formed part of the bell tower of the church of Saint Francis. It now completes one of the two suites. The roomy bathrooms have large windows with the same views that can be admired from the rooms. They feature large shower stalls (1.8 m x 1 m), are equipped with hair dryers and universal power sockets with courtesy Hermès toiletries.  The large reception room situated on the ground floor features a cross
vaulted ceiling, sitting room, substantial library, lounge bar for guest
enjoyment and is reserved for guest breakfasts.
As you may forget about the rest of the world during your stay at La Locanda there is a free internet connection point.
You can conveniently drive right to the entrance of the palace. The owners, Cinzia Caporali and Luca De Nicolò, live in the same building and are at your disposal for the length of your stay for any requirements.
ACCOMMODATION: ROOM 1: You will be struck by the charm of this room: the 19th century bed (1.8 mt wide) with its unusual olive wood headboard and the splendid wardrobe are spotlighted by two windows, one facing onto Piazza San Francesco and Val D’Orcia, and the other over the roofs of Montepulciano to Val di Chiana. The bathroom, with a large shower stall (1.8 m x 1 m), has a striking view onto the square.
 ROOM 2: Dominated by orange and yellow, personalised by the precious queen-size bed and the hand-painted wardrobe, this light and welcoming room
opens onto the lakes of the Val di Chiana seen through the broad window let into the ancient city walls. The spacious bathroom and large shower
(1.8 mt x 1 mt) has two windows with the same charming view of Montepulciano that can be enjoyed from the room. The hand basin has been fitted into an broad niche discovered in the original master walls of the palace.
ROOM 3: The large 19th century bed (1.8 mt wide) with its unusual olive wood headboard and quality furniture distinguish this room. The walls in soft
yellow get their light from a large window, let into the ancient city walls, that opens onto the Val di Chiana and its lakes. The windowless bathroom has a spacious shower (2 mt x 1 mt).
ROOM 4: Delight in the charming atmosphere of the suite. One wall of the spacious room is common with the church of Saint Francis and reveals  much of the history of the building. Such as the brickwork arch behind the bed that is a vestige of the large stone arches of the church. Inside the suite we find La stanza secreta, brought to light during the restoration and reached by a spiral staircase. It has a common wall with the church and has been
turned into a pleasant sitting room with an unexpected glimpse of the Val di Chiana. The access hatch to the bell tower and rope go are now covered by a sheet of glass let into the terracotta floor. The king size bed (1.9 mt wide) in the master bedroom was crafted by a local artisan.
The bathroom will take your breath away. You will be struck by the gothic brick arch, portal of the church of Saint Francis and brought to light during
restoration, which is reflected in the mirror covering the opposite wall. The large circular shower, the double wash basin embedded into the arch,
and the splendid window that dominates the square make this room unique.
 The wine barThe '…e lucevan le stelle' wine bar-bistrot and La Locanda di San Francesco are under the same ownership and situated in the same building that faces onto Piazza San Francesco. Enter through the two magnificent wooden doors to an extensive panoramic terrace to enjoy the Tuscan sun from early morning and to admire unforgettable sunsets over the Val D’Orcia.
Taste prized Tuscan wines, well-know Italian and French wines, and some of the best specialities of the local cuisine in the wine bar whose stone
walls reveal traces of ancient windows and 14th century arches, the perfect setting for periodic art exhibitions.
Guests have exclusive use of the terrace for breakfast, and rooms for specialized tastings are available on request. Access is through an internal passageway reserved for guests.

(50 minutes), Florence (1 hour and 20 minutes to the
centre) Cortona (less than 30 minutes) and Montalcino
(less than 20 minutes).
La Locanda di San Francesco is with in easy reach
of most important Tuscan places of interest. The nearest
airport is Florence (about an hour and a half ). Rome
and Pisa airports are equidistant (2 ½ hours
by car).
