This recently converted three-storey farmhouse retains its cosy, rustic feel in terms of both interior design and furnishings, while at the same time providing all modern comforts. From its elevated position on a ridge, this comfortable villa boasts wonderful bird’s-eye views over the deep valleys to either side. These are especially impressive from the very top floor, under the attractive pitched roof.

Many of the historic architectural features of the original farmhouse were carefully preserved during the restoration work, including the central stone fireplace, the internal archways and the exposed stonework walls. They were then complemented by a range of colours and furnishings in keeping with this traditional country style.

The villa is fully centrally heated and its lounge is equipped with Sat. TV; CD and DVD players; broadband and WI-FI internet connection (bring your own laptop).

ACCOMODATION

From the sheltered front terrace, at ground-floor level, you step straight into a spacious living-room. One archway connects from here to the dining-room, with extendable table, which then connects through a second archway to the fully equipped, rustic-style kitchen.

In the lounge, a narrow, wrought-iron spiral staircase beckons you up to the second floor, which is actually on ground-floor level to the rear, as the house is built into a slope! So up here a door opens from the landing directly into the back garden, which is especially convenient for unloading your luggage!

Issuing from this passageway are the following: small double bedroom; small twin bedroom; bedroom with three-quarter size bed. A central bathroom, with free-standing bathtub, hand-held shower and elegant, antique-style fittings. A terracotta-tiled staircase, with banister, then proceeds to the top floor, with its sloping ceilings and the following rooms: bedroom with three-quarter size bed surmounted by a white baldachin-canopy. An adjoining bathroom, with shower. Double bedroom with wrought-iron bedstead and views to both sides of the house. Adjoining is another bathroom, with a bathtub plus overhead shower and marble surround. 

GARDEN & SWIMMING POOL

Although Villa La Fontana is next door to another property, the buildings are not joined and do not overlook one another. The main approach to Villa La Fontana is along a gravelled walk, bordered by Cypress trees and lavender bushes. This brings you to its own entrance gate, leading into its private garden, enclosed by high hedges. Here a bench invites you to relax under a delightful pergola, while a fountain plays nearby.

In front of the ochre-washed villa extends a patio, with a shady covered loggia to one side, ideal for al fresco dining. Terracotta pots planted with fragrant rosemary bushes decorate the scene, while the pool (9 x 4 meters), with its tiled surround, occupies a suntrap position just opposite the house, overlooking the stupendous Barga valley.
