In the countryside of Montelupo Fiorentino,
a town on the immediate outskirts of Florence, so famous
for its ceramics that it’s called “The Town
of Ceramics”, is Il Colle di Sotto, a charming
quaint Tuscan construction surrounded by olives and
secular cypress trees.
Il Colle di Sotto is a renovated independent
barn, perched on a green and quiet hill, with 360°
panoramic and spectacular views of rolling Tuscan hills.
It is the ideal place for anyone who
desires to unite art, culture and history with relaxation
and getting in touch with the extraordinary natural
beauty of this magical place.
The original architectural details
have been preserved and incorporated into a new, elegant
and comfortable design. The barn has been restructured
using traditional materials: local stone, exposed wooden
beams and Florentine terracotta floors, giving a touch
of simple elegance.
Here and there, you will find unusual
and carefully thought out details such as fine paintings,
ceramics from Montelupo and typical ornaments in character
with the building.
 All
guests are treated to a weekly cuisine surprise so that
you can taste typical local home-cooked Tuscan dishes
according to the season. On your arrival, you will find
a welcome basket with fresh fruit, extra-virgin olive
oil harvested from the olive groves around you, red
wine from the local vine yards and cellars and typical
pasta.
Sit back, relax, watch the sunset,
immerse your self in this magical place of astounding
natural beauty and find your self again.
ACCOMODATION: “Il Colle di Sotto” can sleep up to six people and is composed of a luminous, multicolored and fully equipped kitchen with the latest mod cons.
There are two double bedrooms with double antique iron beds and two bathrooms with showers. There are ceiling fans in the bedrooms and in the living room.
Upstairs from the living room there
is an open-plan upper-gallery with two sofas (one converts
to a sofa bed for two people). The living area is equipped
with Satellite TV, DVD player, stereo with CD player,
books, a fireplace with firewood and an antique Tuscan
chest of drawers.
Colle di Sotto has no telephone but
the owners will  give
you the use of a pay as you go cell phone if you leave
them an extra deposit against it’s loss or damage.
Ever conscious of your protection,
safety and comfort, the owners have also provided the
property with a safe, alarm system and double glazing
on every window. The property is also completely fenced
with an automatic gate.
You will also find; central heating,
a washing machine, an ironing board, first aid box,
iron and hair-drier.
SWIMMING POOL: The
wonderful swimming pool (10,5x7,5 mt.) with Jacuzzi
pool is furnished with sun beds, reclining armchairs,
table and chairs. It is surrounded by lawns and gardens
framed by the rolling wooded hills beyond. It is a lovely
spot to relax and have a cooling dip. It has been built
near to olive groves for those who prefer to enjoy the
calmness of the Tuscan countryside. The pool might be
shared with the owners.
THE GARDEN AND SURROUNDING
ENVIRONMENT: The garden is large, independent
and completely private. It has been carefully landscaped
with exquisite plants, flowers and shrubs, and charming
secluded seating areas for the contemplation of nature
(or fellow members of your party!).
Immediately outside there is a spacious
luminous veranda, equipped with sun lounges, chairs
and a table.  Whether
you want to work on your tan, enjoy a leisurely open
air breakfast or a romantic supper, you will find this
aspect of the villa unique, peaceful and replete with
the glorious suggestive views.
LOCATION: Il Colle
di Sotto is near to Florence as well as with easy reach
of most important Tuscan places of interest. The nearest
airport is Florence airport (under half an hour) Pisa
is about 45 minutes and Rome airports are about three
hours drive.
Il Colle di Sotto is situated in an
exceptionally beautiful part of Chianti above the Arno
valley and about 230 meters or 754.6 feet above sea
level.
It is within easy reach of the most
famous Tuscan cities: only 20 minutes from Florence,
10 minutes from Vinci and San Miniato, 30 minutes from
Pisa, 50 minutes from Siena, Volterra, Monteriggioni,
San Gimignano.
HISTORY: Il Colle
di Sotto – a farm of the ‘Fattoria di Salingrosso’.
The majestic and
picturesque ‘Fattoria of Salingrosso’ was,
in the past, a spinning mill belonging to the noble
Acciajoli family of Florence, from which family the
noble Ricasoli – Firidolfi family were heirs.  In
the second part of the 18th century, about 1750, Earl
Martelli, a noble family in Florence, bought Salingrosso.
In 1808, the Ricci family of Empoli
bought the farm of Colle di Sotto and probably the name
of the last owner of the Ricci family was Luigi, because
the country house was called “the country house
of Gigione”.

Please note: This property does not
have air conditioning. Air conditioning is rarely necessary
in Tuscany due to the lack of humidity and the temperate
climate. Almost all of our properties at InTuscany are
in remodeled medieval or renaissance buildings. They
generally have very thick walls and high ceilings, most
are built on the tops of our gently rolling hills where
they catch the breezes that spring up at mid day and
in the evenings.
Generally air conditioning is only
found by the sea side or in the city centers where noise
and/or humidity make it necessary. We do not have air
conditioning in our offices or in any of our own homes.
