Medici family, and dating back to the early fifteenth
century. Villa Il Portico is perfectly positioned between
Florence and Siena.
This
large holiday rental property was originally a farmhouse
owned by the Medici family and dates back to the early
fifteenth century. It is located approximately 20 km
(just under 13 miles) south-west of Florence, and 3
km(just under 2 miles) from San Casciano which is between
Florence and Siena.
Villa Il Portico sits in a hilltop
setting that has a dominating position over the surrounding
vineyards and countryside of the Chianti Classico district. It is reached by it’s own 800
meter (under ½ a mile) gravel road that terminates
at the villa. This type of road is typical of the Chianti
region.
ACCOMODATION: The
first floor rooms surround the arched outdoor dining
area with no separation one from the other, giving a
feeling of expansive and open welcome.
There
is a large country 'eat-in' kitchen with fireplace,
a large side-by-side refrigerator with ice-maker, dishwasher,
microwave, oven, and stove top with 6 burners. Then there's a full bathroom with
shower, double sink, bidet and toilet, a laundry room,
study, dining room, living room with fireplace and satellite
television.
Upstairs are a full bathroom (with
tub, double sink, bidet and WC), a second full bathroom,
linen storage, large billiards room. There are five bedrooms two with double beds that
are between king and queen sized and three with twin
beds, one of these has bathroom with shower ensuite.Furnishings are of the highest quality
and everything is beautifully maintained. There are
a family housekeeper and gardener who live away from
the villa. On the first floor there is also a sauna.
There is a fixed line telephone with
a counter, calls are charged according to consumption.
There is parking for three cars only 10 meters (about
11 yards) from the house. There is also a private washing
machine for guests use.
THE
GARDEN AND SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT: The house
itself is surrounded by 7 acres of fenced land (with
many olive groves) inviting guests to indulge in country
walks through the hills. Under an archway, there is
a glass table perfect for dining al fresco.
Surrounded by private, well-kept and
furnished garden space, and with a 17 x 7 meter (about
56 x 23 feet) swimming pool, Villa Il Portico is composed
of two stone buildings from the 15th century. One of
these has been beautifully restored with a careful eye
to maintaining the authenticity of typical Tuscan architecture,
wood- beamed ceilings, terracotta floors and whitewashed
walls, whilst at the same time adding the most modern
amenities. The other stone building was a barn and is
now empty.
LOCATION: Villa Il
Portico is near to Florence and Siena as well as with
easy reach of most important Tuscan places of interest.
The nearest airport is Florence airport which is about
20 minutes, Pisa airport is 45 minutes and Rome is 2
½ to 3 hours depending how one drives.
OTHER
FACILITIES AVAILABLE NEAR BY: In the near vicinity
are plenty of good restaurants (Cerbaia village or San
Casciano village) , many of which are a hybrid of bar/grocery/restaurant
and village gossip spot. They produce some of the most
delicious and best value meals you can hope to enjoy.
The Florence - Siena superstrada is
within a 10 minute drive, putting both of these glorious
cities of resplendent art and architecture into the
'unmissable' category for anyone staying at the villa.Alternatively, park the car in Cerbaia village, just
4 km's away, and in 30 minutes be in the centre of Florence
by bus. In the medieval town of San Casciano, just 5
km's (3 miles) away you will find restaurants, bakery,
a store for fruit and vegetables, butcher, a bank, Post
Office, tourist office and supermarket.
You can also find tennis (10 minutes
drive) Golf (20 minutes to the nearest), the sea side
(50 minutes) and horse riding (15 minutes).
