To see the beautiful town of Pienza, as in a postcard, sitting down under a big oak the most ancient of the Val d’Orcia, you have to stay in this private villa, a beautiful country house not so far from the medieval town Monticchiello.

The property is located in the spectacular countryside of the Orcia valley, which has been renowned since the end of the first millennium as an important stage on the Via Francigena, the great medieval pilgrimage road from France to Rome. The villa was peasants' house in ruins when it was discovered by the owner's family, its current owners.

They have renovated other farmhouses, so the same attention to detail and all the lessons learned from previous renovations have been used in this last restoration, finished in 2003: original stone and bricks, terracotta flooring, antiques and Tuscan wooden furniture. The extensive lawn is mainly grass to maintain the open space of the valley and not to restrict the view around the farmhouse.

GARDEN & SWIMMING POOL: Terracotta pots with geraniums, wild roses and bushes of lavender and rosemary create a beautiful frame around the pool (5.15m x 15m, deep from 90 cm to 1.70 cm). The large swimming pool is part of a landscaped terrace looking out over the countryside: it lies next to the villa from where guests can enjoy a spectacular view. Here guests can enjoy a long swim or simply relax poolside.

All around tables and lounge chairs transform the area into a veritable outdoor salon, suitable for sun-bathing, conversing, cocktails or just spending time with family and friends. The covered dining space with fireplace, pizza oven, barbeque, table and chairs will let guests enjoy unforgettable Tuscan sunsets.

ACCOMODATION: The owners respected the traditional structure of the farmhouse and kept the house divided into two independent units (total 700 sqm): the ground level, once the stables, which can accommodate ten people, and the top level, where the peasants used to live, which sleeps four more people. A laundry room with washing-machine, hangers, ironing board and iron is available for the guests.

Ground floor: on the ground floor there is a fully equipped chef’s kitchen, a huge living-dining room with double doors opening to the front patio and to the back garden. In the smaller living room there is a large stone fireplace surrounded by wide red sofas spreading a warm and cosy atmosphere. Five spacious bedrooms (4 double and 1 twin) with en-suite bathrooms (3 with shower, 2 with bath and shower) complete the remaining space on this floor. Also, it is available a service bathroom with shower.

First floor: a stone outdoor staircase leads to the upper floor unit; four breathtaking arched windows overlook the valley and the huge oak tree in front of the house, creating an open and dynamic space. Another large stone fireplace offers an ideal retreat for afternoon reading. A fully equipped kitchen will appeal to those who love cooking, and the vistas and plants from the many windows are very pleasing to the eye. This floor consists of two double bedrooms with two bathrooms with en-suite bathrooms (1 with Jacuzzy and shower and 1 with shower. Another service bathrom with shower available.
